50th anniversary foundations at the Ulster American Folk Park
The Ulster American Folk Park tells the story of migration from Ulster to the United States of America during the 18th and 19th Centuries. The Ulster American Folk Park opened to the public in 1976, making 2026 a special 50th anniversary year. For European Heritage Open Days this year, we invite you to join us on a unique tour that discovers more about how the Folk Park was first established and the origins of the many different museum exhibit buildings, some of which were transported across from North America.
Taking place on Sunday 13 September, join us for a guided tour of the Folk Park and find out more about how the museum first opened its doors to the public in 1976. Fast forward to 2026, the museum continues to attract visitors from around the work with its story of migration. You will meet at the Visitor Centre before visiting the Mellon Homestead where you will see the original Mellon House and understand more of its significance.
Things to note:
You must book your place as there is a maximum capacity of 20 people per tour. The tour is guided throughout.
We recommend wearing suitable footwear and clothing, as part of the tour is outdoors.
There are two tours per day: 13:00 and 15:00.
The tour starts and ends at the Visitor Centre, located at the Ulster American Folk Park.
