Curator Tour: Ulster Emigration and Black History

Black History Month takes place in October, and to mark the occasion we’re holding a tour of the Folk Park exploring the complexities of Ulster emigration and Black History in North America.

Join Liam Corry, Curator of Emigration, as he delves into the marginalised histories of enslaved people of African descent. We’ll finish the tour at the Rogan House, one of our most important exhibit buildings and home of the Rogan family who developed a Tennessee plantation after emigrating from Co. Tyrone. According to census records, 71 people were enslaved by the Rogan family.

Learn how Ulster settlers became enmeshed in a web of trade, with slavery at its centre.
