Built in 1801 and restored by the Friends of the Glens at Gortnagarn, Omagh Co Tyrone in 2015. The kiln was used by the local farming community, over generations in the production of lime in the area to fertilise their fields. Come and enjoy this heritage site during EHOD 2024.

The limekiln is situated along the roadside in a picturesque setting close to Rylagh Burn a few miles outside Omagh. Signage at the site outlines the role of this limekiln, over many years in the rural community. The limestone was drawn some distance, from other areas in Co. Tyrone, before being heated over an extended period of days in the limekiln. The end product was used to fortify the land belonging to farmers living close to the site.

The kiln had a role in social aspects of the community; it was a place where people met and worked together. It remains a gathering place, where, even in recent times, friends and neighbours have met for festivities. Work done to restore the kiln was undertaken by volunteers drawn from the local community. The setting is a peaceful place, enhanced by the burn which runs alongside the kiln. The natural vegetation lies undisturbed and the secluded picnic bench at the site provides the perfect setting to enjoy the experience of being there.
