Fleadh Thír Eoghain 2025 returns to Fintona
The Omagh Half Marathon & 5k Run, now in its 35th year, started off as a 10mile race in 1981. In 1986 it was a 12mile race but changed to the Half Marathon distance in 1987. Omagh Junior Chamber organised it from 1981 – 1996 before it was cancelled for three years 1997- 1999. The local running club Omagh Harriers regrouped and relaunched the event in March 2000. The SPAR Omagh Half Marathon Race & 5K Run/Walk has had a steady increase in participation, starting with 240 in the year 2000 but with the slick organization of the hard working Omagh Harriers Half Marathon Committee, it is now one recognized as one of the most prestigious running events in the country and we expect a record 4500 participants in 2025 to mark our milestone anniversary.
With the Covid 19 pandemic having a major impact on businesses, society and sporting events, the committee took the decision to cancel the race in March 2020 but instead ran it as a very successful virtual race with many participants running the ‘Omagh 1/2’ in many overseas exotic locations. Unfortunately the Covid situation persisted which meant there was to be no race at all in 2021.
Back with a fresh look our event sold out in record time this last two years so enter early for 2025 to guarantee your place as we will sell out again before the New Year. There is a quality top guaranteed for All Half Marathon entries plus newly designed bespoke medals for All finishers including the 5k finishers. Chip timing, fast course, race pacers, street entertainment, finish line refreshments are all on offer to make this one of the top events in the 2025 sporting calendar.

The Ulster American Folk Park opened in 1976, and tells the story of emigration from Ulster to America in the 18th and 19th centuries, using objects and buildings to reflect experiences in both places. We have been working to incorporate marginalised histories into the narrative at the Folk Park. This includes bringing to the fore the stories of Indigenous Peoples, many of whom suffered greatly as a result of colonisation, as well as enslaved Africans who were exploited by some of the Ulster emigrants whose stories we profile.
Frederick Douglass Day is celebrated annually on the 14th February, a date chosen by Douglass to be his birthday. Douglass was born into slavery in 1818 and never knew his real birth date. He went on to become one of America’s great abolitionists, writers and leader of the movement for African-American civil rights in the 19th century.
To mark the occasion, join Liam Corry, Curator of Emigration, for an informal talk looking at Douglass’s life and Ulster’s links with Douglass and slavery in the United States.

The North Pole elves are busy getting things ready and spreading festive cheer wherever they go. Did you know that only children who truly believe in Christmas magic can see the elves? They aren’t so fond of grown-ups!
Take in the magic of Christmas with a stroll through the snowy streets of Ulster and America. Let one of our elves guide you to the magical home of Father Christmas and Mrs Claus to say hello, and if you’ve made it on the good list you might even receive a special, traditional gift to bring home!
While you’re here, meet the Chief Story Elf for Christmas storytelling and fill up on Christmas shortbread and mulled spiced apple juice!
See Santa dates below;
There are two different ticket options for Christmas at the Folk Park this year. There will be more festive activity taking place on weekends in December plus Christmas week (the 7th & 8th, 14th & 15th, 20th to 23rd December) so ticket prices on these dates will be a little more than general admission during December weekdays.
Discover how Christmas would have been celebrated in rural Ulster centuries ago, from the humble surroundings of a single-room cabin to the indulgent Christmas of the Campbell House. Meet Mrs Mellon and taste samples of her traditionally made Christmas cake. Emerge in the wintery streets of America, taking in the Christmas décor, smells and festive flavours, seeing how European settlers influenced the holiday season and created the American Christmas we know today. Look at traditional Christmas cards, write your letter to Father Christmas and bring your camera for a photograph at the sleigh, as the little ones enjoy our Christmas tree trail.
We’ll have even more Christmas activity for you to enjoy over December weekends and Christmas week itself (that’s the 7th & 8th, 14th & 15th, 20th to 23rd December). If you’re planning your visit over these dates, there’ll be Christmas crafts for kids, mince pies and warmed apple punch from Mrs Claus’ Bakery, plus festive tunes and Christmas storytelling sessions. The Mummer characters will entertain you with a performance led by Captain Mummer, celebrating one of rural Ulster’s oldest Christmas traditions. If the weather behaves, we’ll also have horse and carriage rides! (Please note, general admission on these specific dates will be more).
