St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and Omagh and the beautiful Sperrins are getting ready for a weekend full of music, culture, and storytelling. Whether you’re interested in history, live entertainment, or simply soaking up the festive atmosphere, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Legends of St. Patrick in Omagh & The Sperrins

The Sperrins are rich in myths and folklore, and St. Patrick’s presence is still felt in the area through the many tales passed down through generations. One popular story tells of a fearsome serpent that once lived in Loughmacrory, striking fear into the local people. According to legend, St. Patrick drove the creature away with his prayers and staff, leaving the lake calm and undisturbed ever since.

Another tale speaks of St. Patrick stopping in Termonmaguirk, where he blessed the land, ensuring prosperity for its people. Some say you can still visit St. Patrick’s Chair, an ancient stone hidden in the hills, where he once rested. Many believe it has spiritual powers and visit it for good fortune and blessings.
